Small game
Pheasant (Phasianus c. colchicus)
The pheasant stock of our country is a mixture of different subspecies of the Asian Pheasant. The pheasant shooting is the most popular collective hunt in the fall. Hunters can take part in this exciting hunting from 1st October up to 31st January. There are two popular hunting methods. In case of walked up hunts, a smaller group of hunters with a few gamekeepers and gundogs comb through the territory. Besides the walked up hunts, driven hunts are memorable events of the autumn.
We offer pheasant shooting on hilly terrains as well as on the Great Hungarian Plain. On the hilly territories usually reed pheasant is available, but on the Plain wild pheasant and hare are shootable at the same hunt, and on a few preserves partridge is also shootable. By hunting on the Great Hungarian Plain the hunters have the chance to shoot some wild ducks too.
The hunts take place on private territories as well as on state territories. There are some preserves that became specialised expressly in the English guests and their hunting habits.

Wild Duck
In Hungary two ways of duck shooting present themselves. The five species of the Hungarian wild duck stock (mallard, garganey, teal, pochard and goldeneye) can be shot only in flight, with a daily bag limit of 8 ducks/day/Gun. Besides ducks, geese also belong to the waterfowl . The daily limit of geese is 4 birds/day/Gun. They can be found in large numbers in the eastern part of Hungary , mostly during the fall and winter. The best time for this kind of hunt begins at the end of November. The other way is the shooting of semi-wild ducks in driven hunt, without daily bag limit. Both of these hunting methods are popular among foreign hunters.
Dove and pigeon
Year by year the dove/pigeon shooting gets more and more popular among our hunting guests. Shooting them should not be underestimated, who can shoot one of these fast flying birds, really puts up a good show.
In the morning and early afternoon the doves/pigeons fly to the sunflower fields. So we organise their shooting at the sunflower fields, or near to the livestock farms, where a lot of scattered corn can be found. The best season is at the end of August and at the beginning of September.
A good shooter can bag more than a hundred birds a day.

Where?

The largest pheasant stock lives on the Great Hungarian Plain, in the Békés, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok and Hajdú-Bihar counties. The hare is also common in these provinces. The pheasant hunting can be easily combined with duck shooting.
How?
The small game hunting is the most delightful hunting of the autumn and winter months. We organise walked up and driven hunts for pheasant and hare too. |
